"Of course i will little one" smiled Aeda to Lauren before turning to Daven. "Ill come with you but im only protecting the little ones ok!". So thats what it was the maternal instinct, even forest dwellers had them. "Lets go" she said turning and running toward's Lauren stopping beside her.

"Now we must be careful not to wake up any of the other residents there are quite a few creatures hidden and hibernating in here".

Darkness fell over the unusual quartet as they journeyed on. Aeda had taken position at the front, leading the way along the dusk covered path as it wound it's way through the forest. Vin followed behind, more from a sence of duty than any curiosity or interest in where they were going. Beside him, Lauren held his hand as they walked onwards between the tall dark trees, and a short distance behind he could hear Daven's footsteps keeping pace.

On the edge of the forrest, when night was truly upon them and a distant owl could be heard calling out the hours, the band finally stopped to rest. There was a low mist covering the open land before them, making it difficult to see what would lay ahead for the next day. Only on the far off horizon could the dark peaks of a mountain range be seen, silhouetted by the starlight shining from above. Vin thought of all those thousands of suns, each with their own worlds. He imagined that there were people walking around on all of them and wondered what they would be doing. He decided that they were probably all wrapped up warm in bed, and he couldn't blame them.

"We will sleep here tonight." Vin said to the others. To lay in his hammock would be a great relief to his tired feet, and he was sure the others would feel the same way.

In the night, a rustling noise approaches the camp and Daven awakens with his staff in hand. It sheds a soft green light and Daven sees a human figure with a finger to its lips.

A soft and sybillant whipser carries to him. "Your quest is noble, but your very soul is in danger if you walk this path. Beware your guide, for she is capricious as the wind. Beware your eyes, in this land they can deceive. Take heart though young Druid, the goddess walks this land!" The figure fades from sight, leaving Daven alone and confused as he lays back down on the soft earth.

The morning sunlight had cleared away the mist by the time Vin woke. He had slept well and rubbed his eyes against the brightness of day. Looking around the small camp he found all was as he had left it, and Lauren was sitting not far away looking out over the great expanse of the world before them. He watched her for several moments as his body woke from its slumberous state, her legs dangling over the rocky edge. With a growing sense of dread, Vin realised that the mist of the night before had completely concealed the vast revine that dropped away just a few short feet from their campsite. The sun lit up the landscape below with a golden hue as Vin felt as though he was looking down upon the world from above. Was this what it felt like to the Goddess?

In the distance great white topped mountains dominated the horizon, and he estimated them to be two or three days of hard walking away. Somewhere beyond them the message had landed, and he was sure that the path they were following would eventually lead them to it. Vin rolled out of his hammock and joined Lauren on the edge.

"Its beautiful." She said by way of a morning greating. Vin nodded, but something was on his mind. The path could be seen far below winding it's way across the picturesque landscape, but he could not see a way to get down to it. The drop below him was almost vertical, with sharp outcroppings at various levels and the path above seemed to stop. However, after a few moments of looking he noticed that there were several sets of steps, very narrow and well worn steps, leading downwards at various angles against the cliff face. Some looked so warn that they could hardly be called steps any more, while other routes had sections that had fallen away or disappeared completely. He didn't like the thought of falling, and he recoiled slightly from the edge as he wondered if their guide knew of the safest route to take.

"Yeah it looks like quite a steep drop mind you don't get a little clumsy on those little chicken legs of yours" she wandered up behind them both dropping an apple into Laurens hands with a cheeky grin on her face. "Here let me get you away from there" she said picking Lauren up around the waist walking a few feet from the edge of the revine and sitting her back down. "I know you wanna look but if cluts over there falls over the edge i don't want you grabbing on thinking you can save him ok?".

Aeda ruffled the young girls hair and returned to Vins side taking another apple from a pocket and throwing it to him. "I haven't really looked for a way down yet i had to get some food i was so.... huuuuungry" she stretched her arms above her head as she spoke yawning with her mouth wide open. She definately wasnt all that lady like but could you expect much more from someone who lived in the forests?

She watched him closely, she wanted a reaction to all of her teasing. "So your going down first right?". Aeda had to admit, as much as she travelled looking down at such a steep drop was making her kind of nervous."Whatever way we go it has to be easy to get down for Lauren" her arms fell down to her sides with a sigh as she tried to contemplate a route.

"Awey" Lauren protested at being pushed around. "I'm not a child." she said, but smiled childishly at the apple and took a big bite.

Vin had hoped that a safe path down would present it's self, but from where he was stood it was obvious that a recent rock slide had wiped out the trail, blocking the best route entirely. The others were more like goat tracks, difficult to follow and extremely treacherous. He stepped back from the edge himself, thought for a moment as he turned the apple over and over in his hand, then went to his pack.

The bag had been made with two shoulder straps, and tied onto the sides there were two large pouches. Vin knelt down next to the pack and began untieing the pouches. One he tied onto his back, and the other he chucked at Aeda. The rest of the pack he picked up, placing the apple in the top of the bag, then with a concerted effort, he hurled the pack over the edge of the cliff.

"Hold on to me. Lauren." He said, picking her up in his arms. She started to protest again, but before she could form the words in her mouth, Vin tugged hard on the straps of his small side pack, and carried Lauren over the cliff edge. They disappeared from sight, hidden by a mass of white material as they fell.
