NATION DATABASE
GUIDELINES

Before you start, take a look at The YoungWorld Map (Linked below), and pick a location from the list of available spaces.

- Link to be added soon -

The Nation Database is the place to post all relevant information regarding your nation for the purpose of role playing here in The YoungWorld. It also provides a useful reference for other members to find out everything they need to know while role playing.

The YoungWorld has a long tradition of producing high quality role plays, making role playing fun for everyone who participates with even the very minimum of details.

When participating in an inter-nation role play, it is important to have knowledge of all the nations you are role playing about, but most of all your own. Consistancy is critical, so if you can't remember what you called your capital city, it is probable that everyone else will get confused as well. However, this database is not just for use in role plays. Most people enjoy simply writing about their own nation, creating information in ever greater detail and this is where you can show off all of that information.

GET TO WORK

It's time to get writing... if you need any more ideas, why not look at other people's threads and see what they have come up with. Please don't copy directly from other people, but I'm sure thay wouldn't mind if you borrowed some ideas.

Please only create one thread for your nation so that this area does not become too cluttered. You can edit and update your posts in this forum area at any time, so you don't have to write everything out in one go. Take your time, read the guidlines and restrictions below, and if you have any questions, please post them here and they will be answered promptly.

Most of all though, HAVE FUN.

RESTRICTIONS

TECHNOLOGY

In The YoungWorld there are two different eras for role playing in: Modern and Ancient.

Modern role plays may only include technology that has already been created and can be looked up on the internet... this does include some technologies that may still be in the prototype stage, but NO futuristic tech is accepted. You may create your own technology ideas from your imagination, so long as they are not obviously futuristic.

Ancient role plays tell stories about the really ancient history of your nation. You can include this information in your database as past history, and refer to it in modern role plays as well. Most ancient role plays include very little technology at all, swords, shields, arrows, and occasionally some basic majic if accepted by the role play's creator. However, this all depends on which historic era the role play is focused on.

Remember, you don't just have to role play with other people. You can write stories about your nation, and in the Media Office you can post all the latest news updates about your nation, it's citizens and what is going on from a day to day point of view.

SIZE and NUMBERS

The YoungWorld has strict rules on Metagaming, so that the role plays that occur here are fair and evenly balanced on all sides. Please read the role playing rules and regulations threads before role playing to ensure that you don't upset other players.

Keeping things realistic means retricting numbers to within acceptable levels. To keep things fair, every nation starts with roughly the same amount of land / sea space as everyone else, and every nation has roughly the same population and ecconomy levels for the purpose of role playing. No nation should be considered stronger than any other player owned nation, unless a player specifically chooses to be the underdog nation in a role play.

Populations are capped in The YoungWorld for role playing purposes at 1 billion.

PICTURES

Pictures should not be posted in role plays to save space, but are extremely useful for role playing... a picture paints a thousand words, as they say. You can post as many pictures as you like in this area, but please be weary of copywrite laws!

WHAT TO INCLUDE HERE

NATION

Map - The YoungWorld map is a useful resourse, showing your nation in relation to everyone else. However, it doesn't tell us much about your nation or what lies within those borders. Creating your own map will help you to describe where things are when role playing about your nation. Geography is important as well. An army can be stopped dead by a mountain, or a river strategically placed, but they can't be used in a role play unless everyone has access to this information.

Locations - Mapping is one thing, but what about all the places on it? Everything in The YoungWorld, like in real life, has a name... so get naming. You've got cities, towns, villages, ports, hills, mountains, rivers, and plenty of interesting buildings to name, design and role play about... or is your nation just a barren desert?

Government - Is your nation a demorcracy or a dictatorship, a dominion or a conglomeration? Do you have a king or a president in charge, and who exactly makes all the decisions in your nation? These are all useful things to think about.

Population - Your nation starts out with a basic population of five million people, as referenced in NationStates. Five million is a lot of people, so we don't advocate naming every single one, but think about how your nation looks after them. What are your nation's internal politics? What are your nation's laws? Do you have a welfare system? How are the governed?

Neighbours - If you have already selected a location on The YoungWorld map, take a look and see which nations are closest to you. These may soon be your closest allies, or most bitter enemies. If your nation is bordered by an unclaimed area, don't discount it. These areas still have a small population of native tribes, and can be conquered by anyone at any time. They may also be selected by any other new nation arriving in The YoungWorld.

CHARACTERS

Political Leader - The most important person in you nation, everyone knows who this person is, including most average citizens in nations on the other side of the planet. Therefore, make sure we know who it is. If there is more than one person, tell us about how their relationship works.

Others - Other characters are generally created while role playing, and often easily forgotten. They are the little people who make your nation run, but a lot of these characters can be used again and again in various role plays, so when you create them, add their names here, and any other details about them that you like. Soon you will find that your favourites have a long and colourful history of their own.

MILITARY

Because it is generally considered more fun, most role plays in The YoungWorld involve some form of military element, either through conflict or displays of power for political purposes. Therefore, creating a military for your nation is an important step when preparing for a role play.

Units - Keep track of the units you have created. List your navy's ships, their names, types, and any other details about them... pictures are useful. The same can be said of aircraft, tanks, weapons and any other equipment you specifically use while role playing.

Bases - Every unit needs a base, be it an airfield, a port, a shed somewhere or an ugly grey city office block. Bases are great targets when role playing a war or major conflict, and so it is useful not only to know where yours are, but also those of your enemy.

Every nation finds a balance between their army, navy, air force, police, special forces and so on, depending on requirements and preference. An Island nation will put more emphisis on its navy, while a land locked nation will not need a navy at all. The 22 point system can be used to highlight your priorities. Divide the 22 points between the different millitary forces within your nation to describe which force you give priority to, and explain why.
