This is the OOC thread for the idea that I had mentioned in the interest thread Scriv put up not too long ago. I'll have the main post up, hopefully later tonight, at worst over the weekend, and that will give some better insight into the world we're dealing with.

A few basics:
-World is low-magic. This means that mages are few and far between and rarely extremely powerful. They can be, but there better be a good reason for it. So, if you play a mage, keep his abilities in check. Very Happy
-Medieval type weapons, more advanced stuff is fine (within reason), but no guns, etc.
-I don't care what race you make your character, but keep in mind that things non-humanoid in nature will be shunned. This is a largely human population, so anything out of the ordinary (dragonkin, for example) might not be greeted too nicely.
-Monsters and demons and whatnot aren't common, but do exist. They aren't rare either, but they just don't often walk into towns etc.

I'll fill in more as needed, or if you guys have any questions, but for the most part I want this to be pretty flexible. I'll have my CS for my character up after I get the thread up. Feel free to not do a CS if need be, but I tend to like to to keep ideas and things that I've done in a thread recorded in paraphrased form so I don't need to re-read whole posts to remember what I did 10 pages prior. (I update them periodically) lol.

Thread on its way!

EDIT: Intro post is going to be huge. Sorry, I got carried away.

I'll put up a CS later. I just spent two hours typing that up. I think it builds the world well. Let me know what you guys think. Keep in mind we don't all need to clump up right away. I gave quite a bit of room for easing into introducing your characters since technically not much will be known about the "attackers" until word starts getting around.

If need be, I can post again to get to an easier spot for everyone. I didn't get as far as I intended with the intro because I had a lot of build-up I wanted to do that took longer than I thought it would.

Don't panic D, I'm in... sorry for the slow response, been dealing with other things and was hoping some others would post first. Also took a while to think of a decent idea for a character.

Gnais Fawkes, the leader of a village militia arrived home to find his village and his family slaughtered and destroyed. The local magistrate and his men arrive, and Fawkes finds himself accused of the crime. Forced to defend himself he kills the men and takes the magistrates horse. Now he is on the run, a fugitive without a home, hunting down those who sacked his village in order to clear his name.

I think that should do for now. hope more will join in soon, if not it'll just be you and me for this one D.

Cool. I just expected to hear an "i'm in" or something. Didn't need characters and whatnot just yet, but glad that we can at least get this off the ground.

I'm kinda interested in bringing this thing back to life and getting back into RPing again. I don't have much to do during the day other than job hunt now that I've got my degree.

Anyone interested in starting this sucker up with me?

I think I remember wanting the town to be alright when he returned, but I'm not doing that, lol. I'm feeling a very bleak start to this thread is in order. Very Happy

Hey FE, I'm going to be coming up with a map to try and get our thoughts straight on where everything is. We're both introducing things and I kinda want to keep us on the same page if possible. We can add to it as we go, but I want to put everything on a map as we're thinking and make sure we're on the same page.

I'll have it up in this post soon. Cool? I will include some basic descriptions of the areas for us to go off of as we write (feel free to add or subtract if you want. This is just something to get us started.)

LEGEND:
Black Line: King Dasta Highway
Blue Line (left): Great Tripola River and its Tributaries
Blue Line (Right): Bessia River + tributaries
Yellow area: Western Expanse
Red Area: Wetlands
Orange Area: Foothills of Ashtarin
Dark Grey Area: Barbarian Held frozen Northlands
Light Gray Area: Ryswick-held land.
Open Circle in Light Gray area: Ryswick
White area: The Unclaimed Land
Green Area: Great Forests of Scalazin
West/South Mountain range: Great Barrier Mountains
East and south of marked areas: The Rydian Sea (left of the line below the mountains is uncharted land)
Note A: Mount Gallith.
Note B: Skyward Peak

Notes on areas
--King Dasta Highway: A large paved road named after the Great King Dasta, the first Rydian King. He is renowned for having kept the Barbarians in the North and having formed the Rydian empire because of it. The upper half of the road was build many years after the wars as the Rydian Empire expanded north.
--Tripola River; A massive raging river that is extremely difficult to cross in many places. Some tributaries are slow-flowing, but most are as dangerous as the Tripola itself. It feeds the Western Expanse's fertile farmland.
--Bessia River: Reason for the wetlands. A low lying river that often floods.
--Foothills of Ashtarin: Great rolling hills renowned for its rugged, rocky land riddled with all sorts of perilous geography and native wildlife. Few resources. Dangerous and difficult to cross without heavy supply and preparation.
--Mount Gallith: The holy mountain of the Barbarian Tribes. Believed to be where their Elder tribesman live and where they draw their strength.
--Skyward Peak: Tallest peak in the charted world. Can be seen from most of the western expanse. Many believe the Gods reside on its peak.
--Fort Kath: The western defense fort of the Rydian Empire. Mostly manned by militia, this great example of Rydian Engineering has grown into a dilapidated shamble of its former self. Once built to defend from whatever lie beyond the mountains by none other than Dasta's forces, it has long been forgotten and serves as a law outpost for the Western Expanse.
--The Unclaimed Land: The only area of the Rydian Empire that is largly uncontrolled. Having been so close to the Barbarians for so long, their culture is similar to the barbarians, but they remain loyal to Rydia. They are not formally barbarian tribes, nor do they have the size or skill as warriors, but the people there are hard, and they do believe in the Rydian Empire. Many of the known King's Guard hail from this region.

Here is my version of the map, made using the current version of TYW Map... Key attached.

The thick black lines are stone paved roads, the thin black lines are commonly used pathways.

I understand it is quite a bit different to your design D, but this is how it looked in my mind, with your most recent additions included. You will note that I have added a lots of villages, which were the ones I had mentioned, but not named, in my earlier posts.

The Kolvan Empire was added to fill up the remaining space in the West, beyond the almost unpassable mountains, I imagine them to be friendly with Rydia, but they can be used any which way the RP takes us.

I like a good bit of it except for a couple things:

1) Grandale was south of Tybiat in my posts ("Riding the Tybiat horse and grabbing the reins of his own horse, he headed out. The ride was only an hour or two of hard riding to the north and across the raging Tripona river."), and Shale/Bastoin East ("Mammoth set out toward the east. This had to be reported to Ryswick"). Grandale was also part of the Western Expanse (I suppose the Highlands could be technically part of the Western Expanse on your map?).

I can edit these things to make sense in my posts, but I don't know if you can think of a way to adjust the map.

My idea would be to swap Grandale and Tybiat, move Shale northwest into the highlands (cut them into the wetlands a little?) and put Bastoin where Shale is. Makes sense since Bastoin is supposed to be the major trade entrance to the western expanse.

2) I have some ideas for what is going to happen west of the mountains, but since this map could easily change as the thread progresses (things getting wiped out, etc), the map works as is for that. And nothing says what I'm thinking about will even be used Very Happy. it all depends on how we play off each other, as usual.

3) We could make the Highlands the "Unclaimed Land" in my post about Barbarian culture with Rydian control, but my thought would be to push the limits of the western expanse along the line of Kymble and the river, maybe cutting across halfway down the road between Hamble and Dhenova.

Grandale, Shale, and Tybiat were supposed to be rather remote towns, too, so this kinda goes with my first comment.

Other than those small things, MUCH MUCH better map than what I had Very Happy

You forgot the major mountains though.

Ok, here is the ammended version... let me know if you need anything else changed.

The whole Tybiat thing was my misunderstanding earlier in the RP, I had thought it to be south of Grendale, not north.

Changes:
Moved middle of the map to the west...
Relocated Grendale, Tybiat and Shale
Added the village of Rando, which had been mentioned
Relocated river to run between Grendale and Tybiat
Added road East of Bastoin to Farsal
Ammended Grendale's status to Town
Removed Ruin error

Looks good except for there is still a "major road" through all of those outlying towns. Grandale, Tybiat, and Shale were rather remote and small. I was thinking like cow-path stuff to them, but no major roadway and no patrols like there would be on King Dasta's.

maybe remove the road between them and connect the road from Grombyard into Bastoin?

And Grandale was spelled wrong lol.
