A Treacherous Wind Will Blow
Welcome to the OOC thread for the story 'A Treacherous Wind Will Blow'.
This is a tale written in The YoungWorld in the form of a Role Play between a group of active members. It was started not on the last forum we had, but the one before that in around 2006. Participants in the original role play included Doramicus, Everstar, The Twin Guns, Istair and myself. This particular role play has been considered as one of the definitive creative works within The YoungWorld, and also one of the oldest and longest ever conceived.
In bringing it to this forum, I have spent some time reading each post that was made, amending spelling and grammar, and then editing it into a cohesive story which hopefully makes sense. As it was written as a role play, each character has been written for by a different person, with many aspects of the tale being described by two or more writers. In some places I have tried to reduce the duplications so that it is easier to read. Some of the text has also been moved from its original order so that events happen in a more linear order and surprises are not given away too soon. By changing it into this new format I hope the story will be just as enjoyable if not more so. I also hope you will spend the time to read it, as plenty of people put a lot of work into writing it.
Plot
The story tells of a great hero Horacius Mecrast, a Knight of the Holy Order cast out by his own nation, who travels in search of a more peaceful existence. Unfortunately he arrives in a troubled land where a tyrant King uses torture to bring fearful obedience to his people, and Horacius sets out to free the land from tyranny. To complicate matters however, Horacius has a price over his head, and is pursued by a morally bound law man intent on bringing Horacius to justice for his earlier crimes.
The role play was originally intended as a sequel to an earlier tale involving Horacius Mecrast, but the role play is unfortunately long since lost. However much of what happened in that tale was explained in detail as a back story in this tale, and I don't believe the original is required in order to tell the full story here.
Characters - in order of appearance
Horacius Mecrast, our hero. Written for by Doramicus. He carries a large blade and shield, as well as wearing a black armoured chest plate. He is a large, tall, thick build man with many strong attributes. As a former Knight of the Holy Order he also has some basic magic as well.
Inspector Faldrine, a law man who is tasked with capturing Horacius Mecrast. Written for by Fort Europe. Faldrine has no powers, but is a skilled fighter and carries a rare sword from his homeland. He is a plain, average looking man who believes Horacius to be a dangerous and immoral criminal who must be brought to justice at all costs.
Boas is a young boy who runs into Horacius early in the story. He is written for by Everstar.
Cyrrus Eleduin, a native conspirator against the King. Written for by Istair. Cyrrus is a cloaked figure with a remarkable rapier and a fine black set of body armour. He also has the brand of the King's prison on his arm.
Kimora, an innocent girl who follows Horacius. Written for by The Twin Guns. Kimora is a somewhat remarkable girl with some basic magical powers and a pet called Karis who follows her everywhere.
OOC Thread
Anyone reading this story may comment on it below, add your own input on the events that unfold or give an honest critique of the tale. Please don't post any OOC stuff in the story's thread.
I understand that it is a lot of reading, but it is a good read and quite compelling with a number of twists and turns to the tale.
As it was a role play, the story has not yet been finished. Therefore, once the story so far has been posted chapter by chapter, then I will open it up for anyone interested to continue it as the role play it was intended as. New characters are welcome as well.
enjoy. _________________
