It has been another busy panto season this year for me, working backstage on Treasure Island in December at the Victory Theatre, Warsash, and Sleeping Beauty in late December and January at the Tivoli Theatre, Wimborne... and I've still got Beauty and the Beast to do in February at the Barrington Theatre, Ferndown (backstage again).
Meanwhile I also performed in Terry Pratchett's Weird Sisters at the Juliana Goss Theatre, Swindon in December, playing King Champot.
Next up, I have just been cast as Captain Walton (the narrator) in an adaption of Mary Shelley's Frankinstein at the Collingwood Theatre, Gosport which will be performed in April.
So, what have you all been up to recently, and what fun things have you got coming up this year. _________________

It's been somewhat of a season for me as well. Last fall I was in Le Nozze di Figaro at UMKC which took up my time from September-November. Right now I'm involved with Nixon in China at the Lyric Opera, and in April I'll be doing a scene from The Passion of Johnathon Wade with the composer of that opera. Somewhere between now and the end of April I also need to put on my first Doctoral recital - not necessarily theatrical, but definitely a production. _________________ [ With my seal and blessing -Scrivneria, Grand Master |

Well, to keep you all updated, my push to return to my career in professional acting has started... although I still have a year or so before I can start working properly.
My current quandary is whether to package myself off to one of the many stage schools in London to take a degree in performing arts or to continue without higher level training and rely on experience to get jobs.
In the mean time, rehearsals for Frankenstein are going well. Performances will be at the Millennium Hall theatre, Gosport from 25 April (Tickets on sale now). I also have an audition next week for a modern adaption of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.
In other news, I was in the West End last week to see Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, London... a fantastic show that I would recommend to everyone! Anyway, I became part of the privilaged few as I was invited backstage by the DSM after the show to meet some of the cast and crew, and take a tour of the theatre. It was suggested in the bar afterwards that I had more than enough experience to apply for a stage management job there at any time and have been asked to submit a CV... I have to admit, I would never have thought in a million years that I could actually work in the West End in any capacity, so I'm quite thrilled with that. Not sure if I will apply yet, but I have a few months to think about it. _________________

Tuesday's audition for Much Ado About Nothing seemed to go quite well, so I am hopeful of getting a part in the production... I will keep you all informed.
Then on Wednesday I was at a film extras casting audition for a new film currently in production and due to be released later this year. Check out the link below for details of the film, because I really can't do it justice... The list of people involved in this film is sensational!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1707386/
Again, if I get cast in this, I will let you know... _________________

Not as well as I had hoped I'm affraid... I had thought I had done quite well, but I wasn't offered a part in 'Much Ado About Nothing', for which I was told I looked too young for the part
As for the film, I haven't heard anything back from them yet, but that may be for production reasons... I'll let you know if I hear anything. _________________

Nixon in China has opened! I'm looking forward to seeing what the critics have to say. I think it fair to say you might see me around here a bit this week now that I'm back on a normal schedule of 30some working hours and my homework instead of twice that!
Sadly, the Scenes program for april seems to have been cancelled, but that does make preparing my degree recital all the simpler. _________________ [ With my seal and blessing -Scrivneria, Grand Master |

Only a few weeks left until the opening night of Frankenstein at the Millenium theatre in Southampton next month... Been learning the lines for months, met with the director this week for a rehearsal, and have a full run through next week.
This weekend I'm attending a workshop with the Royal Shakespeare Company, which normally costs hundreds, but somehow I've got on the course for free
Next it will be time to start auditioning for Panto again... I've been offered a back stage role in London's West End on one pantomime, and theres a good choice of others I could perform in too, so quite exciting this year.
Still not heard anything back regarding the film I auditioned for though, so I doubt that will happen... but that's nothing unusual. There will be plenty more chances in the future for you all to see me on the big screen! _________________

RSC for free! A good showing no doubt of it!
At present i've no idea what show i will be in next, the kc area opera companies have not set their seasons/personnel for next year yet. But, since i'll be in town, a visit to the annual free shakespeare festival is a must! _________________ [ With my seal and blessing -Scrivneria, Grand Master |

Well, to keep you all updated, Frankenstein is going very well indeed... it's been a busy couple of weeks as I have had to continue my day job from 7 till 5 every day, while performing every evening on stage. I just feel like colapsing and sleeping for a whole week right now, but it's been good fun.
Still got a few more performances left, we close on Saturday, tickets are selling quickly! I will post up some pics if I can.
Next up, I've been cast in a comedy short entitled 'Britain's God of War', which will take place throughout May at various village fates and county events in my local area. It is a slapstick comedy sketch about the Battle of Trafalgar.
I also have my first pantomime audition of the year coming up in May, which will be for 'The Wizard of Oz - The Pantomime'. _________________

Gearing up for The Merry Widow with German music and English dialogue at UMKC. Another background role for me...someday I'll be an old man with more than 10 minutes onstage! _________________ [ With my seal and blessing -Scrivneria, Grand Master |

I've been cast in a production of (the musical version) A Christmas Carol for this season! It will be at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ. Its a pretty big regional theatre out here, and its my first professional acting gig (i.e. I'm being paid and I went to an audition in New York for it).
I'm very excited!
Also this past week I worked at my alma mater (Muhlenberg College) back in the scene shop I worked at for four years to help them get the musical set complete for their opening yesterday. It was a hell of a week, ten hour days every day, but I got paid well and got to be back on campus, which was nice. |
