In the early hours of the 31st March 2012 GMT, while those in Britain like myself were fast asleep, and those in America were probably hard at work... The YoungWorld was invaded.

Rouftips Realm, endorsed by Canning, Byserum, Stun Seed, Ukrainian Territory, Dead Dumb and Evil, Ludwig, Don-Principia and Kurt Knispel, set about attempting to over throw myself as Delegate of The YoungWorld.

However, we have friends out there... Three alliances, TITO, FRA and UDL all came to our aid in our hour of need, endorsing my nation to ensure the invaders were defeated.

I have now ejected and banned all those invaders who had not already left The YoungWorld of their own free will (of which there was one)... so that these nations can not be used against us in future. I have also sent messages to each nation thanking them for their interest in our region.

I have also thanked Wordiness, of 10000 Islands who lead the defensive action with TITO, and proposed creating an embassy as a gesture of our gratefulness.

It is my hope that one day we will be strong and active enough to participate in defender missions to help other regions in the future... but we have a long way to go yet.

Finally I wish to put out a plea to all our senior members to hunt down whom ever has the password for our Founder Nation so that we can prevent this sort of thing happening again in the near future.

I'm still new here, so I'm not quite sure what's going on, but I'm glad they were repelled. Why would they do this?

Although, may I ask for you to explain who these groups are? Sorry...

That's ok Odyssey... I will try and explain it as best I can.

The game, as designed by Max Barry about 10 years ago, was very basic. A player could create a nation, and create a region, and the idea was to recruit as many nations to join your region as possible. To create a more political element to the game, he added in a system where by a nation required endorsements (votes) to become the region's Delegate (leader).

At first this was all very straight forwards... people competed within their region to get the most endorsements so that they would be delegate, and all was fine.

A few months later however, a small group of nations realised that if they moved to another region and endorsed each other, they could take over that region and make one of their own nations the delegate. They became the first Invaders.

The idea caught on, and more and more groups of nations started invading other regions, and so this became an excepted part of the game. The trick was keeping your own region safe while capturing other regions.

Not every region liked the idea of invading other regions. And they in turn formed alliances such as TITO and RFA to protect each other and any other weak regions from invasion. These regions are known as Defender regions. The YoungWorld has always been a Defender region.

Anyway, not all Invaders are interested in playing fair. Some of the more malicious groups will invade weak or neutral regions, and close them down, spamming Regional Message Boards and changing World Fact Book Entries, kicking out all the members, and then setting a password on the region so that no one can get back in. This effectively closes a region down.

Only the Delegate of a region, and the region's founder has the ability to set passwords, kick other nations and change the World Fact Book Entry of a region... However, a Region Founder (if active) can over ride any decisions made by the Delegate, providing a safety net to prevent such malicious attacks. Unfortunately, our region's Founder Nation has been lost. We are trying to recover the password for the nation, but it is proving difficult.

The only other way to protect The YoungWorld from invasion, would be to set our own password. But this would mean we can no longer recruit new members to our region, so this is not an option we will take unless there is no other choice.

I hope that answers your questions Odyssey, if you have more, please post them below and I will do my best to answer them.

We do not know at this time why they decided to invade us, it could be something as simple as wanting to invade a region and picking ours at random. If anything comes to light we will be sure to filter the message on.

It is my belief that our recruitment campaign may have highlighted our region as a target... one of the nations used had been founded in the last few days, and others had visited the Pacific regions recently.

I think it is feasible that a message posted by either DS or myself had been seen by one or more of these invaders.

Is there anything we can do to stop/prevent this?

Also, may I ask, out of curiosity, who the invaders who do/don't play fair are?

Yes, certainly. There are a few things we can do to prevent this from happening. There is a vote in the Senate at the moment to decide which action we will take for the long term security of our region. For now though, we are being watched over by some good friends in TITO who will help us if we should be invaded again.

As for who these invaders are, it is difficult to tell. Anyone can create as many nations as they choose, and keep them active or inactive as required... we call these Puppet nations. I have several myself. Only one of your nations can have World Alliance membership though, which is needed in order to endorse, or be endorsed by others. However, you can change which nation has WA membership from one nation to another quite easily.

Invaders will usually have 10 or more puppet nations each in various places. They do this so that it is more difficult for Defenders to follow their movements and work out which region they are going to attack.

There really are not that many nations that don't play fair any more... mostly because these nations are being highlighted and deleted from the game. Unfortunately they can only delete individual nations and not the players themselves, but they've mostly died out because even the fair invaders hated them for giving invaders a bad name. Mostly now, the bad invaders are new players to the game who don't yet understand or respect the honest politeness of this game.

There are currently 103,302 nations at the time of posting this, and 10,156 regions on the game... If I said that about 10% of those were invaders, and about 20% were Defenders, I think that would be about accurate. Of course, go back a few years and the numbers were a lot lot higher.

Looks like The Black Riders failed one of their jump throughs. They'll be back though. I'll try to pull some strings with some of the bigger raider regions to keep them out.

You've been out of the raider/defender scene a while FE, things are a lot different now. Especially the %'s. Its closer to 25% raider leaning 10% defender leaning.

I don't doubt it DYP... I was trying not to scare people too much though.

Do what you can.

Okay, that's twice now that we have been invaded...

Again our friends in TITO came to our aid, but I think we are running out of time and ideas.

I propose a 48 hour fixed vote time. Majority rules.

I would think the recruiting is only a secondary symptom of our problem. Raiders seem not to spend nearly this much effort if a founder is alive. Not sure why noone seems to have the password. I know Lans and Nataniel tapped their memories out last time we called, and I've sadly never been a custodian.

According to Sir Lans, he had the password, but tried logging in one day and the password no longer worked... he thinks that someone else had changed it.

I recall there being an incident not so long ago when accounts on the game were being hacked, but I didn't think TYW was involved...
