June 12th, 1987
United States President Ronald Reagan challenges to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to destroy the Berlin Wall. In a famous speech,

"We welcome change and openness; for we believe that freedom and security go together, that the advance of human liberty can only strengthen the cause of world peace. There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
- President Ronald Regan

Weeks later, General Secretary Gorbachev admits that the Soviet Union is losing the Cold War and has plans to open up the Iron Curtain under his leadership, however denies Soviet Democracy to be implemented soon. The world heaves a huge sigh of relieve for which a Hot "Cold War" was not likely to happen. The United States withdraws 27,900 troops from Western Europe.

May 9th, 1988
General Secretary Gorbachev was shot while attending the Victory Day parade in Moscow. He died on the way to hospital. The next day, the Red Army staged a coup against the CCCP and installed Stalinist Yegor Ligachev as Head of State. The new leader reassures the World that the situation in the Soviet Union is under control and that the new Government will adopt a bloodless end to the Cold War.

July 21st, 1988
Almost a year ahead of schedule, the Soviet Military pulls out of Afghanistan, ending the 9 year war which claimed over 37,000 Soviet and over 4.1 million Afghans. President Reagan applauds the move and further reduces troop numbers in Western Europe and lowers National Security level to DEFCON 4 and sets a timetable for complete withdrawal by 1990.

November 1st, 1988
The "November Pact" a 10 year non-aggression pact was signed between NATO and the Warsaw Pact, along with was an agreement to have no more than 30,000 troops on the East-West German border. Many analysts say US and USSR relations is the "warmest since 1945".

April 8th, 1989
President Bush fails to recognize intelligence reports of massive a Soviet Military buildup of over 450,000 in East Germany, director of DIA, Harry E. Soyster resigns. USSTRATCOM assures President Bush that Soviet Military in the East are well below "November Pact" levels.

September 1st, 1989
On the 50th anniversary of World War II, World War III erupts, 1.4 million men from 7 Armies of the Soviet Military were unleashed upon the relaxed forces of NATO. West Berlin was overrun in just 36 hours. A total of 2,658 American Servicemen were killed, over 5,000 wounded and taken prisoner on the first week alone. President Bush declares a state of War between the United States and the Soviet Union.

"Yesterday, Air, Land and Sea forces of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were suddenly and deliberately unleashed upon unsuspecting forces of the members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. We regard the brutality of this act by the Soviet Government as ruthless and merciless, in a last desperate attempt to save themselves from defeat. I have made the mistake of overlooking the capability of the Soviet War Machine and I shall never make the same mistake again. As of today, a state of war has been declared between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. God bless our Freedom, God bless our Liberty and God bless America."
- President George H.W. Bush

Two days later, massive advertisements on the military have been put up in villages, towns and cities across the United States, in an effort to boost troop levels across the country. A "Police Force" of 35,000 men have been sent 5 days later to relieve NATO forces.

TODAY: November 19th, 1989
West Germany has basically been overrun and is staging a last line of defense, along with help from the Italian Army in Bavaria. The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium have been occupied by Soviet forces and the French and British Armies are barely holding out in Ardenne.

You Roleplay as a new enlistee right out of 3 month basic and assigned to the 2nd Battalion, A Company, 7th Cavalry Regiment. Reformed after the entire Regiment was wiped out in Berlin, the Regiment now consists mainly of young, inexperienced but eager junior ranks, fielded by their battle-hardened officers. The 2nd Battalion is an air mobile unit, capable of insertion and extraction, search and rescue and deep logistical strike operations. Your character is however, a green soldier who has never seen combat before, and such complicated operations could be a little too hard to take. The psychological set backs, and the unity among squadmates would be undoubtedly be one of the main focuses of the Roleplay. This isn't about your character and your character only. It is about your character and the other characters around him.

Rules:
- No God Modding
- No Random OOC Flaring
- Keep Realism in Check
- No One Liners please!
- Maximum of two characters per player
- Try to keep proper English standards at all times, if not, at least understandable
- Vulgarities, Violence and Romance (Flirting with Civilians) are allowed but not excessive (as for the latter too much is bad, remember you're in a warzone)

Keeping Realism in Check:
Playing as a Soldier: Take the Fog of War into account. Remember you don't get a bird's eye view of everything. Its the 80s, reconnaissance technology isn't as elaborate as it is today. Also take moments for fear and shock into account, you are not immune to psychological set-backs in a War Zone.

Don't treat it as a FPS-Game RP: This isn't Call of Duty or Medal of Honor we are basing off. Avoid killing hordes of enemies in your post, and regenerate your 'health' by seeking cover or walking over health packs. Also remember that the US Military by the mid 1980s tend to avoid close-quarter combat as much as possible and that there have been no bayonet charge since the Battle of the Bulge, so no 12 knife kill streak. Keep realism in check.

Backgrounds: What you were before the conflict. This should be written in a Lost style fashback rather than dragging your first few posts from home. As a citizen volunteer to fight the onslaught of the Red Army, clearly there are things in the battlefield that will remind you about your past.

Know your Weapon: While you do not need to know everything about what your fielding, its good to know that Running and Gunning with any weapon is extremely inaccurate (and unprofessional) and firing a LMG while standing will send bullets flying everywhere.

Take Ammo into account: While this is an RP and I do not ask you to account for every shot, you must still somewhat keep ammunition levels into account. Keep it realistic, don't throw 10 over grenades at your enemy or fire 12,000 bullets from your LMG non-stop. There will be several points of the Roleplay where Soldiers would run out of ammo as part of the plot. Don't make those moments seem negigible.

Dying: While I tend to keep realism in check, your character will NOT die unless,
1) You God-Mode
2) You're inactive without notifying
3) You decided to be Rambo and run across an open field avoiding all sorts of gunfire before planting a C4, blowing it up and jumping for cover as it explodes. (James Bond Style)

Although the title says otherwise, the majority of the RP will be squad based. ( I don't expect over 100 people joining this) A squad consists of 9 people, each with differing roles to play, and no you cannot play as the Russians.

Roles in a Squad:

Squad Leader:
Usually a Sergeant, a Squad leader carries a M16A1 and carries a Radio set for Inter-Squad communications. He is not attached to a fireteam and is overall tactical leader of the squad. He carries an M9 as a side arm. Maps, Tactical information and Night Vision Goggles are sometimes provided.

Team Leader:
Usually a Corporal, a team leader carries an AR-15A2 with frag and smoke grenades. As the leader of a Fire Team, the team leader provides tactical leadership.

Rifleman:
The most junior member (usually a private) in a fire team, the Rifleman is the bread and butter for all infantry units. He wields an M16A1 along with with frag grenades.

Grenadier:
Provides heavy fire against hard targets, he carries a M16A2 with a M203 Rifle-Grenade slung under the barrel. Ranks range from Private First Class to Privates.

Automatic Rifleman:
Provides suppressive fire. He is equipped with M249 Squad Automatic Weapon with ammo and carries a M9 as a side arm. Ranks range from Private First Class to Privates.

NOTE: Several elements such as body armor, personal medical kit and helmets are self-explanatory.
